Dan Phillips founded his company, Dan’s Landscaping, in 2001, in San Francisco, CA.  He received his education in environmental horticulture and landscape design from SF City College (with author and SF League of Urban Gardeners founder, Pam Pierce) and Merritt College in Oakland, CA.  While in school, Dan began his career in landscape design as an apprentice for Gregg Wolford.  Working alongside this well-known landscape designer, Dan was afforded many opportunities to install and later design high-end urban gardens throughout the Bay Area.

Some of the accolades Dan has received in his profession include awards from the esteemed San Francisco Flower & Garden Show: a Bronze Medal for "Backyard Holiday" in his first year as a garden creator, a Silver Medal for "California Hypnotropic" on his second outing and for his third year, a Silver Medal and Best Design of Show Award for "Moonriver".  The exposure at this highly attended show led to being featured in San Francisco’s 7x7 Magazine as one of SF designers to watch and serve as an occasional guest on the HGTV show, "Curb Appeal".

Dan moved back home to Grand Rapids, in 2014 to be closer to family and to focus more on the deep passion he has for environmental stewardship.  He has been reacquainting
himself with the native plants and regional characteristics of west Michigan (becoming a member of the River City Wild Ones Native Plant group and a Master Naturalist through Michigan State University in 2016) and is excited to pursue his dream of being a native plant grower. Dan also is inspired to bring his many years of experience in design, installation and maintenance while building and growing his nursery business.

With a background of over 25 years of landscape architecture, Mike has been on a journey that has included a portfolio of unique design projects and fascinating project roles. Through this journey, many of his career interests have grown to center on the importance of incorporating native plants into our landscapes, removing invasive plant material, and restoring existing ecosystems to enhance and protect our region's natural features and unique natural habitats. His long-time love of nature and his project management skills and volunteer experience have played an important role in this process.

Some of Mike's recent endeavors include experiences such as: leading efforts to establish an 11 acre prairie at Prairie Wolf Park in Gaines Township, serving on the Prairie Committee for the Prairie Habitat at Marywood, lending a hand at Blandford Nature Center, and serving as a preserve steward for the Land Conservancy of West Michigan. Until recently, Mike shared the co-liaison position for The West Michigan Cluster of The Stewardship Network, and served as president for the River City Wild Ones group.  Mike continues to work as a landscape architect on a diverse range of projects. He is owner of Fen View Design, LLC which is currently expanding its services to include landscape installation.
